The Halloween Workshop Awards

After careful consideration and input from almost everyone in our panel of judges,
it's a pleasure to announce the winners of the Halloween Workshop Awards '09!

Best Progress

1rst Place: Charlie Dayman!
For an incredible gallery of progress showing alterations and positive development from beginning to end, and for his ability to ask for, receive and consider all Contructive Criticism coming his way!

2nd Place: Morag D!
For posting progress every step of the way, handling Constructive Criticism with much elegance, and producing a beautiful piece radically improved and built upon from the start!

3rd Place: Narcissia!
For taking is through every step of her creative process, all the while never afraid of asking for critique and listening intently to feedback!

Most Original: Minami Kaori!
There is an agreement amongst the judges that your ToT-bag controlling Ritualist was an original idea, finished in an original format!

Halloween Artist Extraordinaire: Kiya Koreena!
For fulfilling all 3 criterias with ease. You won the official contest, you donated to the Workshop, and you've been a very helpful part of the thread with your constant and friendly activity!

SmileyFace: Fril Estelin!
The judges agree that you've been a great sport throughout the entirety of the Workshop, handing out Contructive Criticism and motivational comments from beginning to end, and donating generously!

Most Pumpkiny: Dyeane!
Your Halloween Siege Turtle brought out the halloween spirit in all of us. Great entry, also full of pumpkins great and small!

Pure Evil: Zidane888!
We all got the creeps from your entry! A fantastic piece with a sinister atmosphere, from the luminous grin on the face of The Mad King, to the red eyes of the white rabbits!

Most Amusing: Qing Guang!
For producing a very cute and funny entry, which put a smile on the judges' faces!

Bonus: Verene!
We couldn't go without handing you a prize, for your constant endeavour to keep people motivated, donating to the awards, handing out Constructive Criticism, participating in the end party, taking our group picture AND prettying it up after! You were the obvious choice for this one.

*** TO CLAIM YOUR PRIZE CONTACT ME IN-GAME: IGN Tzunedaine Fouil

*** We're still missing Revelations' donation, but I'll replace it for now!

*** Prizes have been padded at random! Pads include Party Items, Sweets and unded Minis from my stash, and jewels from Hailfall!

The Grand Goal of this Workshop is to allow new artists to jump out of the shadows, to learn to give and receive Contructive Criticism,
to enhance the Community Feeling by making a collaborated effort to get a Guru Member amongst the Winners,
and most of all; have a great deal of FUN in the process.

You might fret that this thread is to be focused on winning the Halloween Contest alone, but that is NOT the case.
The Halloween Contest is our superficial carrot, something people will strive for if the goal of progress and growth isn't enough at first.
The most significant purpose of this thread will be to see people make an effort, and to see them grow by doing so.
The Guru Halloween Contest Prizes will aid this cause.

This Workshop will last from 30.09.2009 and until the results of the Official Guild Wars Halloween Contest have been posted on GuildWars.com.

There will be 3 stages to this Workshop:

(1) - We all strive to create a Guild Wars Halloween masterpiece of our own, and help others create theirs.
(2) - Final feedback given, those who wish to do so will enter the official contest before the deadline has expired.
(3) - We hand out Guru prizes independent of the official results, chat a bit and discuss whether we wish to have a Wintersday Workshop as well.

The Guru Halloween Contest Prizes

These prizes will be based on donations from everyone who wants to and are able to aid the cause.
Any donation is accepted, from Red Iris Flowers to Ectoplasm.
A panel of judges will be set up eventually, but some Awards will be based on polls too, to include popular opinion.

Quote:
The Best Progress Award is given to the artist(s) who have listened intently to critique, mastered the art of Personal Growth,
and made long leaps to better his/her piece regardless of whether he claimed a prize in the Official Halloween Contest or not.

1rst Place Best Progress - [100k]
2nd Place Best Progress - [75k]
3rd Place Best Progress - [50k]

(donator(s): Tzu)

Quote:
The Most Original Art Award is given to the artist(s) who have, IN A GOOD WAY, stood out from the crowd, in choice of art form, subject, style and finish.

Most Original Art - [50 zaishen keys] (donator(s): BlueXIV)

Quote:
The Guru Halloween Artist Extraordinaire Award is given to the artist who meets with 3 criterias; was menioned in the Winners section OR the Honourable Mention section of the Official Halloween Contest, participated actively in this thread; both giving and receiving critique and generally being chatty, AND, finally, was a candidate for at least 1 of the other Awards (Harsh, eh? Well, believe me, there will be more than 1 candidate for this Award in the end).

Guru Halloween Artist Extraordinaire - [150k] (donator(s): Morag D, YunSooJin)

Quote:
The SmileyFace Award is given to a person who didn't necessarily enter the thread as an artist, moreover as a supporter of the thread and the goal. He/she is a person who kept the thread alive with kind chatter, maybe donated something to the prizes, gave useful critique, submitted tutorials and ideas unselfishly, and generally kept us motivated all the way.

SmileyFace - [50k][chibi freebie from Tzu] (donator(s): Tzu)

Quote:
The Most Pumpkiny Award is given to the artist who, in a neat yet awesome manner, managed to include the most pumpkins in his/her piece. This doesn't nescessarily mean number of pumpkins, it depends on the overall impression.

Most Pumpkiny - [100 Squash Serums] (donator(s): KiyaKoreena)

Quote:
The Pure Evil Award goes to the artist with the most evil-looking and -feeling piece. Keep in mind that you still need to stick to the rules of the Official Contest and GWG, and that evil/cruel doesn't nescessarily mean "goriest".

Pure Evil - [100k + Aatxe Minipet] (donator(s): Revelations)

Quote:
The Most Amusing Award goes to the artist with the funniest entry.
An entry which catches the judges' attention and makes us giggle.

Most Amusing - [25k] (donator(s): Verene)

Quote:
The Bonus award goes to someone who didn't get any of the other awards, but whom the judges still believed was worthy of one. This could be based on effort, positive energy, donations, or something else entirely.

!!! Bonus !!! - [Undedicated Miniature Destroyer] (donator(s): Fril Estelin)

more places may be made in every category if more prizes are donated,
prizes may also raise significantly in value.
more categories may also be made, based on requests.

Nice idea.

Have they announced they're actually doing one this year?

Sounds fun Tzu, you should get people to sponsor all the extra prizes, you'll never finish all the extra commissions XD.

I'll sponsor most original, 50zkey should do it

love the idea! this has definitely got me thinking there's something I've been wanting to do for a while, but not sure if I can pull it off... this might be the opportunity to find out!

also, because my days of buying stuff in GuildWars are officially over, I'd like to donate 100k to the awesomesauce winner of Halloween Artist Extraordinaire - because whoever this is deserves massive recognition, and it definitely won't be me

XDD lol, Blue...
I think male is worse though.

I'd like to see a dude do necro Elite Scar Pattern with a Zombie Mask. True to the feeling of Halloween. XD

No, but seriously, stuff like Female Monk Ancient would be wonderful to see/make someday. I love the textures. Looks comfy too.

The only FOW armor I'd consider is Dervish Which I probably wouldn't do because I don't think I'd be able to get the spiky bits looking right.

I'm leaning very heavily towards Gwen's Brotherhood armor (the decorative designs will be a pain to do, but I've done worse), with Norn Elementalist a close second Mesmer Rogue/Elite Rogue is also up there towards the top of the list.

Also, I love that there are glasses in GW, because I won't have to worry about finding my contacts or being blind ^_^

Edit: Oh, geez, Tzu, thanks for posting another I'd like to do XD Monk Ancient would be so easy, too...

ohh that's a difficult choice, in my opinion! X3
Gwen Brotherhood is super-pretty, if you do the dye-job properly, norn ele is truly original + comfycomfy, but mesmer rogue is so badass! D8

I love this idea! It's something I've wanted to start the past couple of years for all these contests, but I didn't think I had enough clout in the artist community to do it right.

I look forward to seeing the other entries! (and wonder if I should show my entry here as well as in the other topic.)

Nice Tzu, you included a prize that's going to make sure that I will spam this thread.

Also I'd like to put up 50k to the prizes. Added or padded to wherever you wish.

Thanks.

@ Operative: you can post stuff two places if you want, but the same people might be watching and replying to both of the topics, so not much gain in the end. As long as it's got to do with art, halloween and Guild Wars, it belongs here! ;D

YSJ: thank youu
I'll use it to pad GH artist extraordinaire. That means I can withdraw my full body freebie for now. It might come back, but I might find other things to replace it with too. :3

So many talented people I'm already getting nervous about the competition. I think what I've got done so far for this year's entry might put my previous entries to shame. Now to get my head out of the post-vacation clouds and get to work.

Doh! It's times like these I wish I had artistic talent. I love to draw but can't do it. I may work on something though. But I will definitely be watching this thread, and I'm looking forward to see what all the wonderful artists have to show us!
